With a recreation center project that could exceed $16 million, the City of Boaz has chosen to employ Forsyth Building Company for construction management services.
As construction manager of the recreation center project, Boaz Mayor David Dyar said Forsyth would be tasked with making sure everything is completed on time and without additional cost to the city.
“With a project of this magnitude, we need someone on the inside to make sure we’re getting a good product,” Dyar said. “They’ll give us insight on saving money during the project and hold the general contractor to the terms of the bid process.

When you’re trying to complete a project of this size, there’s going to be cost overruns if you don’t know what you’re doing,” he added. “That’s why construction managers are hired … it’s just a step in the process to make sure we get what we want.”
The cost for the company’s services has not been decided. The Boaz City Council voted to authorize Dyar to enter contract negotiations with Forsyth at its latest meeting.
Dyar said the council was more comfortable with Forsyth since it was building Old Mill Park. Since the company will be positioned as construction management, Forsyth will not bid on the recreation center project, Dyar said.
